Automating Software Defined Storage with Atlantis USX in a Modern Datacenter

The modern datacenter, a software-defined datacentre (SDDC), is heralded as the best solution to deliver business flexibility and power while reducing costs and increasing performance. As you move towards the goals of SDDC, the provisioning and operation of your infrastructure should be automated as much as possible. Yet, a common questiopn on how to deliver SDDC today is how to transition and implement components such as Software Defined Storage?

What are those Software Defined Storage capabilities, and how can you utilise Atlantis USX to automate the delivery of your new or existing storage services to bring about your modern datacenter today?

The Zen of Atlantis USX on Citrix XenServer: Part III A Simple in Memory Volume

What is Atlantis USX software defined storage and how does it work on Citrix XenServer? What does the impact of hyper converged on Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp workloads? If I'm using Citrix XenServer for non-VDI workloads, is software defined storage applicable to me? This is Part III in a blog series looking to answer these questions, providing insight into the possibilities of reducing the costs of delivering a virtualised environment while improving the performance.

Time to participate in the Project VRC State of the VDI and SBC union 2015 survey

The independent project ‘Virtual Reality Check’ (VRC) (www.projectvrc.com) was started in early 2009 by Ruben Spruijt (@rspruijt) and Jeroen van de Kamp (@thejeroen) focusing on research in the desktop and application virtualization market. Several white papers with Login VSI (www.loginvsi.com) test results were published about the performance and best practices of different hypervisors, Microsoft Office versions, application virtualization solutions, Windows Operating Systems in server hosted desktop solutions and the impact of antivirus.

Best Practices: Atlantis ILIO and Citrix MCS (Machine Creation Services)

Citrix Machine Creation Services (MCS) is one of several options open to Citrix XenDesktop admins for image delivery of virtual desktops and application services. It uses the hypervisor APIs (XenServer, Hyper-V, and vSphere) to create, start, stop, and delete virtual machines. While Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) continues to be a popular choice for image deployment, it is considered a complex solution so many organisations may look to simplify their virtual desktop architecture and implement MCS instead. This is especially true of smaller organisations or environments. Citrix designed MCS to provide many of the benefits of PVS at a lower management cost.

Best Practices: Atlantis ILIO and Citrix PVS (Provisioning Services)

When deploying Citrix XenDesktop and/or Citrix XenApp, many organisations utilise Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS) to not only manage the images for deployment, but to look to reduce the storage capacity requirements of their virtualised desktop and application infrastructure.

Atlantis ILIO for Persistent VDI – how safe is my data?

Common concerns from those seeing Atlantis ILIO for persistent desktops for the first time is “how quickly do unique changes get saved to the optimised disk?” as well as “could my desktop data get corrupted?“

To address these concerns, it is useful to understand how the Microsoft Windows OS commits data, and then we can discuss how Atlantis ILIO ensures data integrity.

Benefits of Virtualizing Citrix XenApp

To virtualize your Citrix XenApp servers, or not? It is still a noble question. Virtualization underpins today’s data centres as companies look to drive down costs of providing services, and to quickly and effectively respond to demand for change.
